How Well Can You Aflac?

The Aflac duck lost its voice today after the comedian, Gilbert Gottfried, was fired for tweeting jokes about the earthquake and tsunami that has devastated Japan. The company fired Gottfried within one hour of discovering the tweets.

Most of the tweets make light of the natural disaster in either a flippant or sexual manner. However, the company's senior vice president and senior marketing officer said that Gilbert's comments were lacking in humor and do not represent the thoughts or feelings of anyone from Aflac.

These are a couple of the tweets:
"Japan called me. They said 'maybe those jokes are a hit in the U.S., but over here, they're all sinking.'"

"I was talking to my Japanese real estate agent. I said 'is there a school in this area.' She said 'not now, but just wait.'"

The insurance company now has plans to conduct a nationwide casting call to find a new voice of the iconic Aflac duck. Depending on how far the company goes with it, they could completely change their brand by using different voices, or different sayings. However, we all know and love that ol' Aflac voice, which could end up hurting the company with its loss. It will be interesting to see where Aflac takes its next steps. Maybe you could be the new iconic voice.

peace and love.
