Yesterday Was Friday, Today Is Saturday, Tomorrow Is Sunday

So you've all seen it by now. Who hasn't? The ever-so-popular "Friday" video by eighth grader, Rebecca Black.

Rebecca's parents paid $2000 to have the video produced by music production company, Music Factory. The 14-year old extras in the video are friends of hers. Including the 12-year-old dude dropping signs as he's pimp-driving.

As of 11:15 am this morning, the video has had 53,156,017 views. At the same time, Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" video has had 25,557,868 views. Lady Gaga's video came out on February 27. Rebecca Black's video came out February 10. How does Ms. Black's video have so many hits? Because we love to be entertained. We crave it. When I mention "Charlie Bit My Finger," you all know exactly what I am talking about. There has become a split between art and pop culture; each with their own popular videos, people, songs, etc.

Kanye, Mos Def, and Jay Z did a surprise show from midnight to 4 am at SXSW. While three of the biggest hip-hop artists were performing, Rebecca Black was still getting more twitter hits.

So what do we have to do in this world to make it big? Write a song about the ABC's or days of the week?

Videotape yourself making a smoothie. Maybe you will end up on the Ellen DeGeneres show.

peace and love.
kails.
